Graveyard Song is the highlight for me because I feel like it's an important reevaluation of the practice of forgiveness. They say that to forgive someone is really for yourself, but too often it just means "I'm done trying to hold you to account for your actions this time." I had ended a one-sided 'friendship' when I first heard this song. I was angry because I'd thought about all the ways that person had let me down and, through therapy, I finally realised it was always intentional. I struggled for a long time with feeling like I should just let it slide for the sake of over a decade of friendship so I didn't have to be alone. It was validating to hear someone say "When someone causes pain it's okay to push them away" It was cathartic to hear someone say "Stop trying to explain to me why I'm supposed to be forgiving if you will not say you're sorry"

What I've noticed with The Cool and Drgoa's Wave is that Lupe doesn't have to follow a concept on every track, so maybe Outside is one of those occasions. I'm probably reaching here but my uneducated take if Outside was related to the main concept, it could be our protagonist is torn, inner conflict, and now the decline of all the highs of being skilled at battle raps begins. Now rhymes have gotten so complicated the game of chess, less is more or the whacker the less bore. The energy runs out, the spark of the well put together words fades, creating a mystery to uncover becomes more interesting than the craft, successful based on subjective opinions of the few. Sounds like the entity Samurai battle rapper is looking to leave the host, not sure why, maybe time is playing itself out, maybe a self destructive mind was the wrong vessel. I must admit, I slept on Lupe post The Cool, maybe because I saw myself as an older, totally unknown British born geezer from nowhere but somehow on the same frequency as him, I don't know. Last few months I got Drgoa's Wave, Tetsuo and Youth and now Samurai though. Superb artist. Concepts are ridiculous, always have been. Here comes the long shot, from 40 yards out. I've put together a concept triple album where the narrative could be one the lines of Lupe's Palaces, where the body is a place. Here on my album the body is a solar system. The listener follows the development of two interlinked protagonists who are two parts of the brain, the beast who is the limbic system, and the hero or the human who is the frontal lobe. The mission is to travel down our inner solar to destroy or transform automatic negative thoughts, and ultimately defeat defence mechanisms who are end of level baddies, seen as gigantic moons preventing planets/energy centres opening up, the real battle is for balance and inner peace. I didn't get my friends together to make this for money or fame, that ship had sailed maybe 20 years ago and in truth it's probably for the best knowing how my mind works, either way I have a compulsion to connect and create. I really appreciate how you breakdown rhymes, poetry, and the world, while focusing on music. I started hearing some of your videos through the Kendrick and Drake battle raps. To be fair I was addicted to all reactions on the subject and your takes were some of the best I had heard. I was just happy people were properly breaking down lyrics on the big stage again, adding value to music and rhymes, even if war was what triggered it. Don't wanna spoil it though...just tease a bit Not only does he do use a it as a double, or a triple purpose, but a quadruple purpose. Part of it is using this spot to transition between two end-of-line rhyme schemes which sound nothing alike. Hopefully this assists in getting a DW review through annoyance of not knowing.
